Basically, Sainik Schools are Govt. Funded English medium residential schools. They are affiliated to CBSE.

Along with formal education, Sainik Schools also prepare students to join the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla (Pune), Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, and other Training Academies for officers.

ABOUT SANIK SCHOOL & ITS ADMISSION PROCESS IN CLASS VI & IX
At present, there are a total of 33 Sainik Schools across the country. All Sainik Schools offer admission at the level of Class VI and Class IX.

They are managed by the Sainik Schools Society (SSS). It is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Defence, Govt of India.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has also approved 18 New Sainik Schools (NSS), which partner with NGOs/private schools/State Governments. These approved New Sainik Schools (NSS) function under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society.

ADMISSION
Admission to Class VI and Class IX is done by a written exam called AISSEE (All-India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination).

The admission of candidates will be carried out on the basis of
E-counseling as per rank secured by the candidates
Medical fitness approved by competent medical authorities
Verification of original documents.
ELIGIBILITY:
For Class VI: Age: Between 10-12 years of age. Girls are also eligible.

RESERVATION
Reservation of seats based on domicile and category exists as per rules. Domicile, Category
are not applicable for NSS.

Medium of Question Paper.
Candidates can choose any of the 13 languages listed in the Information Bulletin.

Qualifying requirements
Min. 25% marks in each section and 40% marks in the aggregate. This does not apply to SC, ST candidates. But this condition is applicable for admission of ST & SC in NSS.

Merit List
The merit list will be prepared based on the marks secured in AISSEE. It will be prepared School wise, category-wise (Home State and outside State), separately for boys and girls.
It will be prepared on an All India basis for admission to Sanik School.
For NSS: It will be prepared on a school-wide basis.
SCHEDULE OF EXAMINATION
The tentative schedule of the examination is mentioned below. These are based on notifications for the academic year 2023-24.
- Online Submission of Application Form: October to November of Every Year
- Last Date of Successful Transaction: November of every year
- Correction in filled Application Form: Upto 2nd week of December
- Date of Examination: 1st or 2nd Sunday of January
candidates are requested to keep themselves updated about the schedule through NTA and AISSEE website https://aissee.nta.nic.in.
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION
Mode of Examination: Paper pencil on OMR answer sheets for admission to both Class VI and Class IX.
Type of Questions: Multiple-Choice Questions
There is no negative mark for the wrong response.
