Career Courses In Remote Sensing & Geoinformatics For Engineers & Others

The Institute’s building at Kalidas Road, Dehradun was inaugurated on May 27, 1972.
The Institute has been playing a key role in remote sensing and geoinformatics technology for the benefit of the user community from India and abroad.
Today, it has programs for all levels of users, i.e. mid-career professionals, researchers, academia, fresh graduates, and policymakers.
The organizations with which IIRS has/had significant collaborations are
ITC, IHE (International Institute for Infrastructural, Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering) and Wageningen University in The Netherlands;
ITTO (International Timber Research Organisation);
UNESCO (United Nations Education & Scientific Cooperation Organisation);
WMO (World Meteorological Organisation); ADPC (Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre);
and NGI (Norwegian Geological Institute).

In this post, i have explained two courses for which, Engineering Graduates are eligible.

1. M.Sc. in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation

2. The M.Tech. course in Remote Sensing & GIS is offered in the following specializations:

Agriculture & Soils

Forest Resources & Ecosystem Analysis

Marine & Atmospheric Sciences

Satellite Image Analysis & Photogrammetry

Urban & Regional Studies

Water Resources

M.Sc. in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation:-

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (specialization/domain: Geoinformatics) is offered within the framework of the Joint Education Programme (JEP) of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) and the Faculty of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente (UT), The Netherlands.
The course is of 2 years duration having eight quartiles. Students follow part of the course at IIRS and a part at the Faculty ITC, The Netherlands.
The first year will be taught at IIRS. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a Master’s degree from UT-ITC. The UT-ITC degree has the name ‘Master of Science degree in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation’.
The diploma will be accompanied by a Diploma Supplement (DS) that describes the nature, level, context, content, specialization, and status of the Master’s degree and the grades obtained for the courses and thesis Other details are as follows:

The M.Tech. course in Remote Sensing & GIS

The aim of the M.Tech. (RS&GIS) the course is to provide an in-depth understanding of remote sensing, satellite image analysis, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technologies and their applications in natural resources survey and monitoring including agriculture and soils, forestry, and ecology, geology and mineral resources, water resources, marine resources, urban and regional planning, atmospheric studies and disaster management.
It is a four-semester course in which the first two semesters are devoted to exhaustive course work and the other two semesters as a research project with a mandate to work as a member of a research group in a project in close association with the subject matter experts. Other details are as follows:

Educational Background at Intermediate Level:-Science stream (with Maths as essential subject and any one subject out of Physics/ Chemistry/ Statistics/ Biology/ Comp. Science)
