How to improve the employability of Engineers & WEST

AS per the AICTE website, there are 3220 engineering colleges for sessions 2017-18. Total 14,77,448 seats are available for Engineering.

 

The most important thing is employability after your 4-year engineering. Here I have explained ways to enhance your employability with an Engineering degree. These are only advice not confirm ways to success.

 

1. HOSTEL Vs PRIVATE ROOM

Approximately 200 students have taken admission In every session in an Engineering college.1st-year classes are common for all branches of engineering.

It means, if you stay at the hostel, there is a possibility of friendship among 200 students. But in the case of outside stay, there are fewer chances of friendship among them due to less communication.

So it is better to stay at the hostel up to the 2nd year. Every hostel has its own discipline. Group study & more exposure are available here.

 

2. CHOICE OF COLLEGE

It is better to choose a college in the industrial state. Here more job opportunities will be available.

Only technical knowledge will be provided during your course.

But for getting a job, you have knowledge of the local language, easy food habit & understanding of local culture in addition to good marks.

 

3. FUTURE PLANNING

After completion of the 2nd semester, it is better to plan for your future dream job. For information about the present job requirement, you can visit these sites.

Various options are available after completion of Engineering. as per your interest & economical support, you can choose them. Generally, 4-5 types of options are popular.

Preparation of State /Central Govt. Jobs

Preparation of of GATE for Public Sector Units (PSUs) jobs

Appear On or Off Campus interview for Private Sector Jobs

Entrepreneurship in Brick & Mortar business model and pure online business model

Go for higher degree such as MBA/MTECH. You must try admission in NITIE. It is a dedicated institute for Engineers. In NITIE, you can take admission through CAT or GATE Exam.

 

 

4. PREPARATION WITH COLLEGE CLASSES

Once you will decide about the future job. Preparation for them will be easy. Buy books or printed material for the preparation of your dream job during Engineering. Commonly usable books are shown for preparation of exam of Govt. & PSU jobs in this link.

It is better to purchase study material or join the correspondence course of IES Made Easy, New Delhi or IES Academy, Hyderabad for Preparation IES (UPSC), GATE, or PSUs. If u r interested in Marine/Shipping jobs, appear qualifying exam of SCI (Shipping Corporation of India) after getting a graduation degree. Or you can also join Pvt. You can also do a Management Course from Reputed College in Operation Management, Project Management, and Finance Management etc. Other than MBA,CFA & CFP-CM is also a popular course for financial sector job.

 

5. ABOUT MOST COMMON JOBS:-

There are various types of jobs available for engineers. Some of them are as follows:

Group A & B Jobs:-UPSC for IAS (Administrative Services), IES (Engineering Services), IFS (Forest Services for Mechanical, Civil & Agriculture Science), etc. All these jobs are executive in nature.

Lectureship job:-Qualifying the GATE Exam for MTECH.After MTECH, you are eligible lecturer job in any engineering college. This job gives you money with respect. Even if, you can fight an election during your job. It is also an executive cadre.

PSU Job:- Through GATE Score Or direct exam by PSUs itself. It is also an executive cadre job with time-bound promotions. These qualities make it better than State & Central jobs except UPSC jobs.A brief comparison between Central & PSU jobs has shown in this link

Group C Jobs:- SSE & JE Post in Railways by RRB Exam. It is a non-Executive cadre job without any time-bound promotions. But this job can be got by single exam without any interview or GD etc and also have a probability of home posting.Here job profile of JE has explained.

Group B jobs:-JE jobs through SSC, Engineer jobs in the state by State PSCs. It is the executive cadre’s job.

Bank PO:- PO jobs of various banks through IBPS Exams. It is an executive cadre job with the probability of home posting. Job profile of a Bank PO.

Bank also recruits Specialist officers. Basic Eligibility for Specialist Officer/ Manager is BTECH in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Computer Science, etc. Job profile & Eligibility for the Specialist officer

NPS Factor:-Presently old pension scheme has been scrapped in GOvt. Service. NPS (New Pension System) has been adopted. So the benefit of pension is gone from Govt.

 

 

6. CHALLENGES FOR ENGINEERS

Automation in every sector is the biggest challenge for every engineer. But it creates a job in new sectors such as in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Nanotechnology, etc. It means you have to learn technical courses on AI along with C, C++, Java, HTML, etc.

 

7. WHEELBOX EMPLOYABILITY SKILL TEST

At last, I advise you to appear in the WEST. It has collaborated with AICTE, UNDP, CII, AIU, Pearson Education, etc. Final-year students of MTech., BTech, Polytechnic, or ITI are eligible for WEST.
